ABOUT

THIS BLOG IS ABOUT STEM
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to be specific. STEM is critical for our future, according to an article from US News and World Reports, which says that "Increasingly, one of our richest sources of employment and economic growth will be jobs that require skills in these areas, collectively known as STEM."

Women comprise of 48% of the US workforce, yet less then a quarter (24%) of workers in STEM fields are women. As the US Department of Commerce has said, "half as many women are working in STEM jobs as one might expect if gender representation in STEM professions mirrored the overall workforce." This needs to change, and one of the best ways to do it is by getting girls interested in STEM at a young age.

And we at Girls and STEM want to help.

This blog is a place for girls to connect with other women and explore their interest in STEM. A place for girls to share their stories and experiences, and ideas. A place to write about the STEM topics that you're interested in, and a place to find other girls who are interested in the same things.
